My name is Joris FRANCK, I'm 21 years old. I'm in my first year of engineering school at the École Supérieure des Technologies Supérieures Avancées (ESTIA) in Bidart. I'm currently interning with Mohamed Nizar Nejjari, and we're going to adapt the appearance of the I Clean My Sea app based on the user's position. Your I Clean My Sea mobile app will highlight local partners who support the collection of floating waste.

Currently in internship, to create a control routine from the information provided by the application, I was attracted by the company because for me the fight against the pollution of the seas is a priority.

Storytelling : Plastic and pollution

I am Aymeric Jouon, founder ofI Clean My Sea,Here is one of my “plastic stories”:

I've always loved playing with waves. Whether windsurfing, surfing, bodyboarding, or bodysurfing, feeling that energy, harnessing it to transform it into speed or getting washed away... This game is a constantly renewed surprise.

In addition to the energy it releases, the breaking of a wave offers an underwater spectacle of hypnotic beauty. As soon as the water is clear enough, I cannot resist the temptation to open my eyes underwater to try to catch a glimpse of this vision. The images of Ben Thouard that I relay here are for me the most beautiful “captures” of these dynamic works that the Ocean offers us.

That's all well and good! But what does plastic have to do with this picture?

On August 31, 2015, three days after a surfing session, what was just a simple discomfort in my right eye turned into a pronounced and persistent pain. Inability to sleep the previous night and partial blindness during the day. I was admitted urgently to the ophthalmologist closest to my home, and the doctor's verdict came back:

“I just extracted a microplastic from your eye.”

According to the doctor, it often happens that a grain of sand can get into the eyes of swimmers, but their rounded shape makes it easier for them to be expelled naturally through the eye. The microplastic in question had a more flattened shape, which made it easier to stick to my eye...

This unpleasant desire to contemplate this spectacle did not leave me and I repeated the experience on April 28, 2018!

I am the Aviva coordinator of "I CLEAN MY SEA" as part of the ACCELERATE project. Within the ESC Pau team, my goal is to unite students, organize startup events, and spread the influence of I CLEAN MY SEA in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and further afield if possible. Our goal? We want to raise awareness of the invasion of plastic waste at sea and take concrete action by cleaning up this plastic pollution at the source. Why? Because the sea is our horizon, let's not lose sight of it.

I Clean My Sea winner of the EUROSIMA 2019-2020 sponsorship competition

The competition organized by EuroSIMA, The Action Sports industry cluster took place in Hossegor during the Surf Summit 2019. I Clean My Sea won this competition with the company Shakabay. Our two companies will each receive €750 in aid from Crédit Coopératif and support from EuroSIMA sponsors to accelerate our development.
