I've always loved playing with waves. Whether windsurfing, surfing, bodyboarding, or bodysurfing, feeling that energy, harnessing it to transform it into speed or getting washed away... This game is a constantly renewed surprise.\u00a0<\/p>

In addition to the energy it releases, the breaking of a wave offers an underwater spectacle of hypnotic beauty. As soon as the water is clear enough, I cannot resist the temptation to open my eyes underwater to try to catch a glimpse of this vision. That's all well and good! But what does plastic have to do with this picture?<\/p>

On August 31, 2015, three days after a surfing session, what was just a simple discomfort in my right eye turned into a pronounced and persistent pain. Inability to sleep<\/span>\u00a0the previous night and partial blindness during the day. I was admitted urgently to the ophthalmologist closest to my home, and the doctor's verdict came back:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

According to the doctor, it often happens that a grain of sand can get into the eyes of swimmers, but their rounded shape makes it easier for them to be expelled naturally through the eye. The microplastic in question had a more flattened shape, which made it easier to stick to my eye...<\/p>
